The Arkansas River Valley is a veritable playground. With miles upon miles of pine forests, rocky crags, raging whitewater, and trails designed for hiking, biking, and off-roading, there’s an outdoor activity for everyone.
Once you’re off the trail, out of the river, or finished with your soak, House Rock Kitchen offers the perfect dish to satiate your hunger. The following are our (not so serious) suggestions based on your day’s activity:
Hiking
After hiking Denny Creek or Brown’s Canyon, your body feels strong and healthy. Maintain that feeling with a Grilled Sustainable Salmon Sandwich. If you pushed yourself to hike a fourteener, you might want to indulge in a burrito filled with your choice of protein and smothered in green chili.
Biking
Whether you hit the road or the trail, biking around Buena Vista offers views of gorgeous rock formations laced with piñon pine—a perfect picture of the America Southwest. Step deeper into this region with a Southwestern Bowl, one of House Rock Kitchen’s most popular dishes.
Disc Golf
You threw discs all morning. Now, enjoy “discs” on your plate with an order of Pulled Pork Sliders, complete with roasted cashew sauce, super-slaw, and gorgonzola.
Kayaking
The rapids in Pine Creek or the Numbers shook your nerves and boosted your appetite. Calm yourself while filling your belly with comfort food like House Rock Kitchen’s Beef Brisket, ideal on a sandwich or in a bowl.
Golf
Buena Vista’s Collegiate Peaks Golf Course offers some of the best views in the county. Though you played a whole round, you’re in a dream state from staring at Mt. Princeton for a couple of hours. Stay in the clouds with House Rock Kitchen’s refreshing signature salad. For an added dose of deliciousness, add warm goat cheese on top.
Rafting
There’s hardly anything better than a day on the river. The flowing—or raging—water does something to the body and mind that can’t be replicated. Once you’re off the river, pay tribute to a country whose livelihood depends on the water by ordering a Greek Bowl.
ATVing/Jeeping
The trails had nothing on you or your vehicle. But, covering miles of open space works up an appetite. Gratify your hunger with a Chipotle Burger, which comes with roasted red peppers, cheddar, guacamole, chipotle aioli, and a side of fries.
Soaking
Buena Vista is famous for its hot springs. The warm water is healing and instills vitality. Continue to care for yourself with a glass of Kombucha, a non-alcoholic, lightly fermented, probiotic tea that’s bubbly and delicious. Kombucha is rich in probiotic cultures that aid in digestion. It’s also packed with B-vitamins, antioxidants, active enzymes, glucaronic acids, and amino acids.
